Presentation coming up? Think about the most important person or people in your audience, who they are, what they want from your meeting, and why they would engage.

#2 Start Strong.

Whatever you do, don’t let your first words be ‘can you see my screen?’

Captivate your audience instantly by starting on time, with a beautiful first slide and a bold statement or question to be answered. Start your presentation as you mean to go on - strong, impactful and awe-inspiring.

But how?

#3 Maximum Impact

Sure, your internal report provided you with a detailed table containing plenty of information about the performance of your marketing campaign, or the reduction in sexual harrassment claims against that one team member year-on-year.

But if they key takeaway is that you delivered double the sales with half the budget, or that HR-mandated training causes a 100% reduction in claims against Donald, then say so, with your words and with your slide.

#4 Engage your audience

It’s any corporate employee’s worst nightmare to be called upon in a meeting while they weren’t paying attention.

So keep your audience’s attention.

Incorporate questions, include anecdotes from your audience’s own experiences, integrate a quiz or ask people to guess answers to questions in the chat. Anything to tell them that their emails can wait; this shizz is worth paying attention to.

#5 finish early if you can

Whether you’re one of many presenters in a larger session, or you’ve got an hour to explain quantum physics to a group of small children, plan your key 2-3 messages so that if time is tight, you can regain it by focussing on those key points.

And if you finish your hour-long meeting after 30 minutes, I guarantee there will be zero complaints, unless your audience has paid to hear you speak for an hour. If that’s the case… Fluff it out a bit.
